Peter Richard Orszag was born on Dec. 16, 1968, and grew up in Lexington, Massachusetts. He attended Phillips Exeter Academy and graduated in 1987 with high honors.
For his undergraduate career, Orszag attended Princeton University and graduated summa cum laude in 1991 with a B.A. in economics.
From here, Orszag traveled across the Atlantic to attend the London School of Economics. He received his master’s and doctorate degree from this school in 1992 and 1997, respectively. He was a Marshall scholar, as well as a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society.
Orszag began working in the White House during the Clinton administration. In 1995 and 1996, Orszag served as Senior Economist and Senior Adviser on the Council of Economic Advisers and Special Assistant to the President for Economic Policy in 1997 and 1998.
From 1999 to 2000, Orszag spent time on the West Coast lecturing about economics at UC Berkley.
Orszag was a senior fellow at Brookings from 2001 through 2007, where he conducted research, wrote several books, and cofounded both the Hamilton Project and the Retirement Security Project.
From January 2007 through November of 2008, Peter Orszag was the director of the Congressional Budget Office (CBO). He was nominated by President Barack Obama to be the director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) in November 2008 and held the position until August of 2010.
Orszag left the OMB to take a position as Vice Chairman of Global Banking at Citigroup, where he currently works. Orszag resides in New York City with his wife, Bianna Golodryga, who is a news anchor for ABC’s Good Morning America Weekend Edition. He enjoys living a healthy lifestyle, running and participating in marathons.
